Time, Time, Time

Settling in to a new class, a new year level... Lots of changes, lots of challenges as I get my head around the new curriculum and all the newness of teaching an unfamiliar year level. I've taught Prep for nearly 10 years and decided that it was time for a change. So here I go with Year 2!

We have been working on establishing Math Center time these last couple of weeks. One area that I've been concentrating on is time. Most of my kids can tell time to the hour and half hour with ease. Adding quarter past and quarter to hasn't been quite so easy though. So I created a memory style game for them to practice this skill a little more. The full pack includes o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to times in both digital and analogue format. I mix and match the cards each day for a bit of variety. So far this is proving to be a very popular activity in our Math Center time. Mickey Mouse Basic Addition

My kids are MAD about Disney at the moment. They have been painting all of the Disney characters and love the Disney music that I play in the room. My preps are starting to become much more confident when adding numbers together up to 10 but I wanted to push them a little bit more to see how they would go to 20. To keep with their Disney madness, I made this game up using their beloved Mickey Mouse ears. The head piece has a numeral on it and there are separate ear pieces which have white dots on it. Number Pattern Cards to 100

I made up a heap of laminated number pattern cards for my year 1s to practice counting forwards and backwards in 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s to and from 100. So far they have been a really popular activity in my classroom and some of my preppies are even beginning to have a go at some of them. The kids really enjoy the coloured cards and laminating them allows the kids to reuse them over and over. They are actually becoming much faster at filling them in - we even have races to see who can fill in the most cards in 2 minutes. Click here to go to my TPT Store

Alphabet Color by Letter

These color by letter sheets are always popular in my classroom... I have them readily available as fast finisher activities and I offer them during "center" time. My kids love to color them in at the drawing table and since we don't do homework (we just do home reading and sight words), some of my keen students like taking them home to do while their older siblings do their homework.
